Snoring - Can you do anything about it
Snoring is definitely not something a girl likes to be told she does. Is there anything you can do about it?
1. Sleep on your side. It's usually worse when you sleep on your back.
2. Drink something warm. That old adage of hot milk before bed certainly works. For an antioxidant boost put a bit of honey and green/white tea bags. There is minimal caffeine if any and it is a great night time routine. If your airway is partly blocked this will help. Anytime you have mucus (yuck!) from cold or allergy this is a great way to get some of it to drain away.
3. Use a humidifier. It helps open up some people's nasal passage. Especially useful in winter when the air is very dry.
4. Lose some weight. If you are overweight, you will snore a lot.
5. Switch Bedding and Vacuum UNDER the bed. You may have allergies to your bedding. So switch out the down for synthetic materials. Also vacuum the dust out from under the bed. Also elevating your head with pillows should help.
6. Avoid sleeping aids (chemical). Snoring occurs when the muscles at the back of the mouth, throat, tongue, roof of the mouth relax. Alcohol and sedatives do relax the muscles. So they may help you sleep, but not your partner!
